Roberto Maselli, MTB guide founded WolfTrails after a path that started far from mountain biking: born in Sanremo into a motorsport family, he grew up around the discipline of rally racing, precise timing, exact distances and complex logistics absorbed from childhood.

Roberto’s approach to guiding comes from an unlikely place: racing rallies himself as a driver, then four seasons of enduro in the French 1001 Sentiers championship and events like the Maxi Avalanche in Cervinia. Years spent working as a mechanic and tyre technician mean he can get you, and your bike, out of most kinds of trouble on the trail. Today he’s a qualified Guida Ambientale Escursionistica (Regione Liguria, since 2009), Accompagnatore Cicloturistico (Regione Piemonte) and FCI Level 2 Instructor Technician (since 2021), with the last eight years spent full-time guiding riders across the Western Alps.

Based in Limone Piemonte, Roberto has spent years exploring the Western Alps by bike, on foot and by 4×4, following old military roads, crossing remote valleys and finding the mountain passes that connect the Alps to the Mediterranean, including volunteering at the Museo del Vallo Alpino di Vievola, sharing the region’s WWII fortifications and history. That same range of experience is why WolfTrails goes beyond a standard guided ride: from Self-Guided+ tours built around GPS tracks and full logistics, to Alps location management and event logistics for agencies and brands working across the region.

Really enjoyed our experience with Roberto. He tailored an e-MTB tour for me and my son based on our availability. My son and I had not done a lot of mountain biking so Roberto provided great instruction and chose routes that were in keeping with our skill level but also allowed us to challenge ourselves. Roberto levererade en resa långt över förväntan. Vårt specifika upplägg handlade om tre dagars cykling, med boende på fyra olika hotell. Vi fick uppleva fantastisk cykling, bodde på väl utvalda hotell och åt riktigt bra mat hela resan. Jag har tidigare varit på flera liknande resor i bland annat Finale Ligure och Aosta-dalen. We did a self-guided tour of the Alta Via del Sale with support from Roberto. Roberto is a wonderful and caring guide who created well-planned routes for our skill level, taking us through magnificent scenery. He ensured our safety by tracking our progress via GPS and was ready to assist with any mechanical issues, which unfortunately did occur for one of our group during the trip. Some of the routes were quite challenging, but it was all worth it. It was an unforgettable experience. This package included everything, and the food and accommodation were exactly what we expected. Esperienza bellissima, la consiglio a chi non ha esperienza con bike e sentieri di montagna, ma anche agli esperti perché merita un’escursione accompagnati dalla guida Roberto per esperienza, cordialità e soprattutto professionalità. Il nostro percorso passando da curva Boaria, con tappa a Rifugio Don Barbera dove si mangia benissimo è terminato poi con la visita ai forti. Una giornata perfetta! Assolutamente da provare
