An MTB Journey Across the Mediterranean Alps
Connecting Valle Maira, Valle Varaita, the Gardetta Plateau, Valle Stura and the Alta Via del Sale, the Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally links some of the wildest corners of the Italian Western Alps into a single mountain-to-sea route. Every journey is tailored to the group’s riding level and ambitions, from the terrain covered to the pace of each stage.
The Route – From the Alps to the Mediterranean
The Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally is a five- to seven-day All-Mountain and Enduro journey across the Western Alps, combining high mountain plateaus, remote valleys, historic military roads and long natural singletrack descents. The route can connect Valle Maira and Valle Varaita, the Gardetta Plateau and Valle Stura before reaching the legendary Alta Via del Sale and continuing towards the Ligurian coast. Designed for experienced MTB and e-MTB riders comfortable on natural S2–S3 trails, each itinerary is adapted to seasonal conditions and the group’s technical level, with strategic 4×4 shuttle support connecting the best riding areas into one complete mountain-to-sea adventure.

Really enjoyed our experience with Roberto. He tailored an e-MTB tour for me and my son based on our availability. My son and I had not done a lot of mountain biking so Roberto provided great instruction and chose routes that were in keeping with our skill level but also allowed us to challenge ourselves. He knows the region very well, including lots of its military history. Would definitely book with him again if we ever make it back to the area.

We did a self-guided tour of the Alta Via del Sale with support from Roberto. Roberto is a wonderful and caring guide who created well-planned routes for our skill level, taking us through magnificent scenery. He ensured our safety by tracking our progress via GPS and was ready to assist with any mechanical issues, which unfortunately did occur for one of our group during the trip. Some of the routes were quite challenging, but it was all worth it. It was an unforgettable experience. This package included everything, and the food and accommodation were exactly what we expected. I highly recommend Roberto for self-guided tours, and we will definitely use his services again if we ever return to the Alta Via del Sale.

No two groups ride the Alps in exactly the same way. The Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally is designed as a flexible multi-day adventure, with the route, daily distances and pace adapted to your riding level, available time and goals. From a compact five-day crossing to a longer journey with more time to explore the valleys along the way, each Rally is built around the people riding it. Ride by MTB or e-MTB across stages ranging from flowing All-Mountain trails to challenging Enduro terrain, matched to your technical level. The destination may be the Mediterranean, but how you get there is part of what makes the journey yours.
You ride. We take care of everything that keeps the journey moving. From carefully selected accommodation and luggage transfers to bike shuttles, route planning and daily logistics, every part of the Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally is organised around the itinerary and the needs of your group. Choose a fully guided experience or ride independently with Self-Guided+, including detailed GPS routes, pre-tour briefing and remote support throughout. Behind every stage is the local knowledge and logistical support needed to connect remote Alpine valleys into one seamless adventure, from the mountains to the sea. Less time organising. More time riding across the Alps.
Where you stay and eat is an essential part of every WolfTrails journey. We select accommodation for outstanding service, comfort and character, often choosing hidden local gems over better-known locations. From authentic mountain stays to premium hotels and dining, every detail can be tailored to your group.
No. The Rally is a multi-day mountain biking journey, not a timed competition. The route, pace and daily stages are built around the group, preserving the challenge and adventurous character of a true Alpine Enduro crossing without the pressure of racing.
Is this a variant of the “famous MTB Rally”?
No. The Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally is an independent WolfTrails experience, with no connection to any other rally, race or organised event. It is not based on a fixed commercial format: every journey is designed specifically around your group’s riding skills, preferred terrain, pace and requests. The itinerary can also evolve during the tour, creating a genuinely private and tailor-made adventure.
How difficult is the Mediterranean Alps MTB Rally?
The natural trails of the Mediterranean Alps are often technical, with rocky terrain and sustained S2–S3 descents. However, the tour offers a high level of customisation for each group. After Day 1, the original plan may be confirmed or adapted according to your feedback, riding skills and preferred level of challenge. Climbs, transfers and selected technical sections can be adjusted while preserving the best descents and the overall character of the journey.
What type of bike is recommended for the MTB Rally?
A modern, fully serviced All-Mountain or Enduro bike with reliable brakes, strong tyres and suitable suspension is essential. A capable e-MTB is also an excellent choice, but assistance does not replace the technical skills required for long natural descents and changing Alpine terrain.
