The Mediterranean Alps Grand Tour is a multi-day MTB and e-MTB journey from remote Alpine valleys to the Mediterranean Sea. Historic military roads, high mountain passes, traditional villages and abandoned fortifications link the Italian and French Alps in one unforgettable adventure.
A Journey Through Changing Landscapes
One of the defining features of this Grand Tour is the extraordinary variety of landscapes encountered along the way. The journey opens in Valle Maira and Valle Varaita, where high-altitude military roads and remote Alpine passes lead into forests, hidden valleys and historic mountain villages. Crossing into Valle Stura, the scenery begins its gradual transformation, before the route joins the Alta Via del Sale for its final push south: rugged Alpine terrain gives way to Mediterranean vegetation, warmer valleys and, eventually, the Ligurian coast. No two stages feel the same — crossing different territories on both sides of the Italian–French border, the tour blends spectacular riding with local culture, frontier history and constantly changing mountain environments. More than a route to complete, it is a journey through the many faces of the Mediterranean Alps.
This Grand Tour is never tied to one fixed itinerary. An extensive network of historic military roads, scenic mountain tracks and Alpine passes allows each journey to be shaped around the season, local conditions and the riding experience of the group. Depending on the chosen route, every stage can cross remote valleys in Italy and France, follow spectacular high-altitude roads or reveal lesser-known connections far from the busiest Alpine destinations. This flexibility is an essential part of the Grand Tour experience: the goal is never simply to follow a line on a map, but to build the best possible journey through the Mediterranean Alps for every group.

Really enjoyed our experience with Roberto. He tailored an e-MTB tour for me and my son based on our availability. My son and I had not done a lot of mountain biking so Roberto provided great instruction and chose routes that were in keeping with our skill level but also allowed us to challenge ourselves. He knows the region very well, including lots of its military history. Would definitely book with him again if we ever make it back to the area.

Roberto levererade en resa långt över förväntan. Vårt specifika upplägg handlade om tre dagars cykling, med boende på fyra olika hotell. Vi fick uppleva fantastisk cykling, bodde på väl utvalda hotell och åt riktigt bra mat hela resan. Jag har tidigare varit på flera liknande resor i bland annat Finale Ligure och Aosta-dalen. Alla har varit bra, men den här resan var snäppet över på de flesta punkter. Kan varmt rekommendera!

We did a self-guided tour of the Alta Via del Sale with support from Roberto. Roberto is a wonderful and caring guide who created well-planned routes for our skill level, taking us through magnificent scenery. He ensured our safety by tracking our progress via GPS and was ready to assist with any mechanical issues, which unfortunately did occur for one of our group during the trip. Some of the routes were quite challenging, but it was all worth it. It was an unforgettable experience. This package included everything, and the food and accommodation were exactly what we expected. I highly recommend Roberto for self-guided tours, and we will definitely use his services again if we ever return to the Alta Via del Sale.
